Remote Color Grading

  • High-End Color Grading Anywhere

Currently the trends of the film industry (like those everywhere else) are going remote. Things that were not possible just a few years ago are quickly becoming the norm. Even though it’s great to meet in-person to work on a grade, we know that’s not always possible. Remote grading allows filmmakers from anywhere in the world to have access to high-end color grading that is usually only possible in cities like New York or L.A. Due to cutting edge technology in streaming, compression and blazing fast internet speeds, you can grade “in-person” with no quality loss.

  • How Does It Work?

The process to grade remotely has gotten as easy as it is to join a video chat. You simply get a unique link for the session, click on it and we’re live. (yes it’s that easy) No need to have a studio version of Resolve or special technical knowledge. We’ll be able to see each other, hear each other, and see your project in a visually lossless quality that wasn’t possible a few years ago. If you have a computer with an internet connection then you’re capable of doing a remote grade. We use an industry standard service that ensures color accuracy and pristine quality.

  • What If I Don't Trust My Monitor?

Most people think that if they don’t have a ten thousand dollar professional grading monitor that their image is completely and totally wrong and can’t be trusted. In fact, many monitors today are very high quality and at very affordable prices. Great quality equipment has gotten very accessible to most filmmakers. Think of cameras like the Blackmagic pocket and others, just a few years ago you would never think you could get a 6K camera that shoots in Raw to the masses. Monitors on MacBook Pros, iMacs, iPad Pros and others have gotten extremely accurate. Just leave all the color management and use of tools in Resolve to the Colorist. All you have to worry about is viewing the high quality playback on your end. Of course you’ll be walked through a few guidelines to follow to get your monitor and viewing environment as close as possible to a reference monitor. Things like turning off auto-brightness, Night Shift, True Tone, being in the correct mode, viewing in a dark environment etc. can make all the difference. In the hands of the right colorist you can rest assured that the remote grading experience will be accurate, easy and efficient.
